Ethos
Our ethos is based on respect for others and celebrating difference. Please remember that behind every username is a real person, with real feelings. Avoid derogatory comments, and remember that when people read what appears in print, they don’t always ‘hear’ the tone of voice in which it is said.

Be kind
Before posting, check if anything you have written could be read as offensive, racist, hurtful, false, defamatory or obscene. Don’t post personal information about other people, and don’t think “no-one knows who I’m talking about”. You’d be surprised how often people do know who you’re talking about, it’s a small world. Posts should not identify children, parents, teachers, or any individual or company. We welcome debate, and know that it can sometimes get a bit heated. However, personal attacks, rudeness, and/or insults will result in the removal of individual posts, and possibly a whole thread.

Spam, advertising, chain letters, and anything that we feel might give rise to a civil or other legal action will be removed at the earliest opportunity.

Be aware that there are people who get a kick out of posting outrageous posts (trolls). Ignore them! Please!

It’s not always easy to find the line between censorship, allowing free debate, and protecting both the site, and those who contribute in the general spirit of the site. We want our site to be lively place, where people come for interesting debate. To ensure that lively debate doesn’t turn into an online shouting match, we will moderate the site with a firm hand. Please help us by ensuring that your posts are respectful (even with provocation!)

Please do not put HTML tags in the subject or body of any message, it messes up the presentation of the posting, and can interfere with the working of the discussion board.

If you’re giving a link to a site, make sure that it’s not illegal or pornographic, and try to evaluate whether it might be deemed objectionable by a reasonable person.

Educate Together is not liable or responsible for any content that is posted on the interactive part of our website. Each individual is responsible for what they write, and is personally liable for the consequences of any hurt caused through inappropriate comments, including defamation of character.

The heavy bit
The administrators/moderators of the site reserve the right to take any action they deem appropriate to ensure that the site is not abused or disrupted. Posts that fail to comply will be deleted. The author of such posts will be notified by email that their post has been removed, the reasons for its removal, and will be given a formal warning.

A second offending post from the same person will result in that person’s access being removed for a week, the post being deleted, and a second warning given, by email.

Should a person post a third offending post, that person’s access to the site will be removed completely.

Educate Together reserves the right to deny access to any person who is deemed to be in contravention of these terms and conditions.
